Memorial Weekend

Well, this past Memorial Day weekend was pretty much uneventful. Friday Grandpa, Jessica and I went to see Grandad for a little visit. We visited and helped him put up his goodies that he had bought in the cantina and we took him a couple of big packages of chewing gum. He has taken to chewing gum instead of the chewing tobacco. It is a lot cleaner and he can swallow with that. He chews a whole package of five sticks at a time. Jessica was with us when we took Grandad the gum and she told me in a wisper that Grandad put ALL that gum in his mouth at once ( 5 sticks). ROFLOL... She was not sure if he should have done that. I told her that is was ok, he had a big mouth, LOL... No, he did not hear me tell her that!
Before we left, we went in to the business office and I bought a meal ticket for the cafeteria. For $20.00 you get 10 punches worth $2.00 each. It takes 2 punches for each of us to eat. That was not bad. Every time that Jana or RoRo said that they were going to go eat with Grandad in the cafeteria, we couldn't go because we did not have a ticket. We got to the office on Friday just before they closed.
Saturday Grandpa and I went to Lindsay to fix the tire on the riding mower for Grandad, but it has a hole in it so Grandpa took it off and we will have it fixed here in the city some time this week and take it back down and do his yard, later. Grandpa told Grandad that his yard really looked like a redneck lived there now, because his riding mower is up on blocks with a tire off of it. Grandad actually laughed about it.
Grandpa and I got a call from Jana letting us know that she and RoRo and Sara were headed up to eat dinner with Grandad, so we ran by with them and had a very nice dinner with him. I was so glad that I had taken the time to buy that meal ticket the day before. They do not sell them on the weekends and the ladies in the cafeteria do not handle money.
After dinner we all went down to the family recreation room and played some pool, played music on the jukebox and laughed a lot. It was honestly a good time. Grandad called on Sunday and Monday, wanting someone to come down and see him again. We should have gone again, but sadly we did not go. I guess we should be kicked!
Sunday and Monday both, we thought about going fishing, but it was so windy all weekend and there was no reason to even go forth. I did however finally get my fishing licenses. We just did not get to go fishing.
We stayed pretty much around the house after going to the grocery store on Sunday. I hate going to the store.
We went to Uncle Chuck's on Monday, to work on his dryer and then to lunch at Crabtown and we went home, we thought for the rest of the day. Daddy hurt his shoulder moving the dryer aound, so he went to bed and took asprin. About 6:14 p.m. Uncle Chuck called again and his wheelchair had a flat and so did Roses truck. Well, Grandpa to the rescue again. He fixed the wheelchair, but he could not get the truck tire fixed with his compressor. That will have to wait. Since Grandpa is pretty much going to be out of town all week and the weekend, everything will have to wait until next week.
Ok, time to go make some more Memories, Jessica and Jordan are here for a little while. Thomas has been home this morning and they have been having a good time. The girls think that he is thier own private toy. LOL

Grandad is back at the VA

Well, I got Grandad home to the VA on Monday, from the hospital. They took thier good ole time getting him discharged from the hospital, but when he told them he had better be back to the VA in time for lunch, they got on the stick and we were able to get him to the table at the VA right at 12:05 p.m. The lady at the hospital called the VA and told them that Grandad said he wanted to eat when he got back there and they had him a tray waiting on him. He did not even go to his room first. Grandad ate good and got hugs from all the nurses and shook hands with all his buddies. He was telling his stories in no time. Man, I did not realize that he went through as much terrible stuff as he was telling, but then, it was his story and he was sticking to it. LOL. After lunch, we had to go straight to the Cantina and resupply his snack drawer and then to the physical therapy room to let those ladied know that he was back. They were all glad to see him back.
Don't get me wrong, Grandad was a pretty sick man, and is still looking at some rough times with his heart, but you know, it is always worse to the person that lived it than it is to those of us that were visiting with him. With him not being able to hear, it was even harder on him. Even if we weren't talking about him, he thought we were, especially if we were talking to one of the nurses or aides and we were not standing close enough for him to hear every word we said. Bless his heart!
When anyone is close to his area, stop in and see him. He would love it. Grandad loves telling the ladies and his roomy who his family is, even if he has already told them before. Marvin is Grandad's room mate and he really made Grandad feel like he had been missed. Marvin just hung on every word that Daddy had to say. When I kissed Daddy goodbye, Marvin and he were chatting it up. I kissed Grandad goodbye about 3:30 and he yelled at me to call and let him know I had gotten home ok, at 3:52 he was calling me wanting to know why I had not called him yet. I explained that I had run to the store and was headed home after that. OK, that was OK! LOL Yes, I called him when I finally got home, but he was out and about and did not answer his cell.
So, there is still time for more Memories to be made.
There will be a program for Memorial Day at the pavilion there at the VA on Friday at 10:00 a.m. if anyone can make it.

It's A Good Day to be a Grammie & Grandpa

Wowie, it is a good day to be Grammie & Grandpa. We were at the park with our families and some wonderful friends for Jessica's FIFTH Birthday Party. That was a lot of fun. We played on the swings, the slides, the merry-go-round and a catapiller. Yes, we are super grandparents....LOL... I really like the little park that Joy and James picked. That is where they take the children to play on their days out. It is really nice. However, it does need a potty. LOL

We played with water guns (next time I am taking my own), water balloons, and the children got to bob for apples. They would not let me bob for apples.....8^( lol I am very glad of that, I would have looked very funny if I had lost my teeth trying to get an apple. Oh man, that would not be good.

We are going to dinner with some friends that used to live behind us. They just called and I don't have to cook....Yeh........!

WONDERFUL MEMORIES WERE MADE TODAY.....COUNT THEM, ALL SEVEN OF OUR GRANDBABIES WERE THERE (Brittany, Danny, Christian, Jessica, Emily, Jordan and Jacob) AND ALL BUT ONE OF OUR BABIES WAS THERE. THOMAS HAD TO WORK, BUT HE WAS THERE IN OUR THOUGHTS. RoRo was missed, too, she was home with a tummy ache and Grandad was in the hospital, so he did not get to come, but we will make sure that they all know how much fun we had.

Grandad will be going back to the VA on Monday, he is doing better.

Grammie......It is a good day! This is a Good Tired........

Ok, I am back....lol

Well, here I am again!
Grandpa and I met James, Joy, Jessica & Jordan, at James college, for James' graduation ceremony from college, on May 6, 2006. It went pretty fast and was very well arranged. James' folks, Bob & Linda Huber, came in from Arizona for the graduation. Bob, James Dad, was here for the wedding, but Linda wasn't able to come at that time. It was nice getting to meet the lady that I have been emailing for so long.
We all met with many other family members from James' & Joy's sides of the family for a cookout to continue the celebration. They had planned on a cook out in the back yard, but since it rained all day, we were all in the house. It was tight, but we all made it.
We are so proud of James for hanging in there and finishing his education.
This weekend, on Sat. May 13th, we will be in Lindsay for the dedication of the new flag pole in honor of the Veterans from Lindsay. I will be going down to get Grandad to take him down. His name is supose to be on the memorial. They are having a Founders Day parade and I was told by Aunt Jana (the Great), that Brittany is going to be in the parade with her Girl Scout Troup. I hope that I get to see her.
Grandad wants to go see a few folks that he has missed seeing these last few months so we will be taking him to those places (Ranch House & Gas 'N Go) and then we will try to be on main street for the parade. We are going to try and get Grandad from the VA in time to make it to Lindsay for Lunch, at one of the above places, I hope!
Come join us, we will be making more Memories.
